Google Sheets Tab Split Automation
Budget: $10 – $30 CAD
I maintain more than 100 inventory-tracking Google Sheets and need a repeatable way to break selected sheets into three separate tabs automatically. Each split must focus on Inventory data and group rows by the Category of commodities; the resulting tab names should be commodities specific rather than the usual “In stock / Out of stock” labels.
I am open to either a Google Apps Script add-on inside Google Sheets or an Excel-compatible macro/Power Query solution that I can run locally. The files are not password-protected, so there’s no security hurdle to clear—I simply want to eliminate the current copy-and-paste routine.
Deliverable
• A working script or query I can trigger on any chosen sheet that:
– Reads the existing inventory list
– Creates three new tabs named according to the items’ commodity groups
– Routes each row to the correct tab solely on that commodity category rule
• Brief instructions so that other team members can deploy the same process across our remaining 100+ sheets without additional coding.
I’ll validate the solution by running it on a sample file and confirming that every row lands in the right commodity-specific tab, with no data loss or formatting issues.
