Automate Google Sheets Budget Reports
Budget: $30 – $250 NZD
I already have a detailed Google Sheets workbook where I key in every transaction by hand. The file holds my budget and main spending categories along with an other column for anything else. Each Friday I still copy-paste figures, run filters, and total everything just to learn whether I stayed on budget.
What I need: turn that weekly recap into an automatic, scheduled summary report. I’m happy to keep entering the raw data manually, but from there I want Sheets to do the work—summarise each category, flag variances against budget, and present the numbers in a clean dashboard tab (or a PDF/email if that’s simpler).
Key points
• Source data: one Google Sheets file, manual entry only
• Categories to track: groceries, utilities, entertainment, plus “other”
• Automation goal: generate a clear weekly report on a set day without any extra clicks from me
Feel free to lean on formulas, pivot tables, QUERY, Apps Script, triggers—whatever delivers a hands-off weekly snapshot. A short Loom or written rundown of how to adjust categories and dates will wrap it up nicely.
