Batch Edit Google Earth Placemarks

I need to batch edit placemarks in a Google Earth file (.kml), modifying one or more style elements without changing others. The elements are icon size and color, text size and color. Selection would be by icon type or folder. The solution preferably would work within Google Earth but a standalone workflow would be suitable if necessary.
