I’m locked out of a specific Google Cloud Workstations instance and need an expert to get me back in with full admin privileges. When I try to connect I receive the following error:
“The Workstation does not exist or your currently signed-in account does not have access to it.
APPLICATION_ERROR; google.cloud.workstations.v1beta/Workstations.GenerateAccessToken
Permission ‘workstations.workstations.use’ denied on
projects/390945656991/locations/asia-east1/workstationClusters/workstation-cluster-17/workstationConfigs/monospace-config-web/workstations/firebase-studio-1761246795369 (port 9000).”
No troubleshooting steps have been attempted yet, so you’ll have a clean slate to work from. I need you to:
• Audit the current IAM roles, service accounts, and Workstations settings for the project.
• Identify why the permission workstations.workstations.use is failing for my user.
• Implement or guide me through the exact policy changes—roles, custom role creation, or service account bindings—so that I can launch, stop, and fully manage this workstation cluster as an administrator.
• Verify the fix by demonstrating a successful connection on port 9000.
Familiarity with Google Cloud Console, `gcloud` CLI, IAM policy troubleshooting, and the Workstations API is essential. Once access is restored I’ll confirm connectivity; that will serve as final acceptance of the task.
