Security-focused DevOps Engineer (GCP/K8s)
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Title: DevOps Engineer (GCP, Kubernetes, Security-Focused) – ~16 hrs/week Ongoing
Description
We are looking for an experienced DevOps engineer with a strong focus on security to support and evolve our cloud platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes (GKE).
You will help us implement and improve our infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and security posture, working closely with our existing engineering team. This is an ongoing, part-time engagement of around 40% capacity (~16 hours per week).
Our current software developers are based in Dnipro, Ukraine, so overlapping working hours with Eastern European time zones and being comfortable collaborating with a Ukrainian team is a big plus.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm, etc.) for GCP and GKE.
Improve and maintain CI/CD pipelines (build, test, deploy, rollback strategies).
Implement and refine security best practices across GCP, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
Optimize cluster configuration, networking, and observability (logging, metrics, alerts).
Collaborate with developers to ensure secure, reliable, and repeatable deployments.
Document infrastructure, deployment processes, and operational runbooks.
Proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and security.
Example Tasks / Deliverables
Harden and standardize GKE cluster configuration (RBAC, network policies, pod security, etc.).
Set up or improve CI/CD pipelines for multiple services.
Implement secret management and secure configuration handling.
Configure and tune monitoring, logging, and alerting.
Refine backup, disaster recovery, and incident response procedures.
Review current infrastructure and propose a roadmap of improvements.
Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with GCP (IAM, networking, GKE, Cloud Build/Cloud Run or similar).
Solid experience with Kubernetes (GKE) in production environments.
Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Helm, Kustomize).
Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
Strong security mindset: least privilege, secure networking, secrets, compliance-aware setups.
Comfortable working asynchronously with clear written communication.
Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Nice to Have
Experience with Wiz or other cloud security posture management tools.
Background in cloud security / security engineering.
Experience in multi-environment setups (dev/stage/prod) and GitOps workflows.
Familiarity with monitoring/observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, etc.).
Prior experience working with teams based in Ukraine / Eastern Europe.
Engagement Details
Availability: ~16 hours per week (ongoing / long-term collaboration).
Collaboration: Work closely with our platform team and existing Ukrainian full-stack developers.
Communication: Async-first (Slack), with occasional standups and planning sessions.
If this sounds like a good fit, please include in your proposal:
A short summary of your GCP + GKE + security experience.
