Traffic Routing Dashboard - Using Google Maps Routes API
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I am looking for a skilled developer to create a Traffic Routing Dashboard using the Google Maps Routes API. The project requirements are as follows:
Features:
- Alternative route suggestions for traffic routing
- Real-time traffic updates
- Traffic congestion alerts
Details:
• Objective: create a dashboard that when prompted, gives preferred routes in the event of an accident. The idea is to try to understand how Google is redirecting traffic as well as determine where users are likely to diverge given a closure or accident.
• Solution: Use the Google Maps Routes API. Pertinent options of the API:
○ Using the RoutingPreference (REST), specify "TRAFFIC_AWARE_OPTIMAL". This is what Google Maps and mobile apps use.
○ The returned polyline is "High quality" and is Traffic Aware
○ Return Alternative Routes
○ Pull existing data on road closures and traffic crashes. Not sure what API's provides this.
• User interface:
○ See the Routes API demo for an idea on what I am looking for
○ User selects, from the active map, the Origin and Destination. This is returned to the API as GPS coordinates
○ The user specifies one of the four cardinal directions:
§ North (i.e., heading = 0)
§ East (i.e., heading = 90)
§ Etc.
○ The user selects a button called "Get Potential Route(s)"
○ The dashboard has company logo in the top right corner (see attached)
• Programming languages needed:
○ HTML
○ Javascript
○ CSS
• Application hosting: There are a number of options
1. Compiling the code as an ".exe". The user opens the file and it opens up a local html file with the necessary code to make the API calls.
2. Hosting this on a free hosting service with the ability to set user credentials by the owner (i.e., myself)
I prefer option 2, but am not sure how to do this.

- The dashboard needs to be integrated with my existing website
Timeframe:
- The project should be completed within 1-2 weeks
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Proficiency in working with Google Maps Routes API
- Experience in developing traffic routing dashboards
- Strong knowledge of integrating systems with existing websites
