Senior Go Backend Developer For GraphQL

Job ID: 39552209

Budget: $8 – $15 USD

We're seeking a Go (Golang) backend expert to work on Truss platform—a critical internal service that powers unified machine learning workflows across the org. This project involves maintaining and extending the GraphQL server, which acts as the core aggregation layer for multiple backend services, Kubernetes clusters, and workflow APIs.

This is a long-term internal tooling role that requires deep understanding of Go, gRPC, GraphQL, Kubernetes, and AWS, with experience deploying services in enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, maintain, and optimize GraphQL endpoints for internal services
- Integrate with multiple backend systems including:
- gRPC-based `workflow-api`
- Control plane and data plane Kubernetes clusters
- Postgres databases via AWS Secrets Manager
- Handle Simcloud-based authentication and secure service access
- Write clean, idiomatic Go code within the Truss monorepo
- Use internal tooling such as Vessel, Skaffold, Helm, and Rio CI/CD for build and deployment
- Perform local testing and debugging via VSCode, including live Kubernetes port forwarding and token-authenticated requests
- Participate in GraphQL schema updates, codegen (`make gen-gql`), and CI-integrated feature rollouts

Project Context & Environment

- Main technologies: Go, GraphQL, gRPC, AWS (EKS), Postgres
- Internal tooling: Vessel (Docker alternative), Rio CI/CD, Simcloud, AppleConnect, Temporal UI
- Environments: Dev, QA, and Prod, with each backed by separate EKS clusters
- Access management via AccessManager and DCVPN
- Debug via `kubectl`, AWS CLI, and internal monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk for gRPC error tracing)

Required Skills

- Strong expertise in Go (Golang) with production-level experience
- Hands-on experience building and extending GraphQL servers
- Proficient with gRPC, protobuf, and Go codegen tooling
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes (esp. EKS), including `kubectl`, port-forwarding, and cluster config
- Experience with AWS CLI, Secrets Manager, and working in VPN-secured environments
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, including querying and secure connection management
- Comfortable navigating large monorepos and following enterprise-grade CI/CD
- Bonus: experience with Temporal workflows, Apple internal tools, or enterprise identity systems like AppleConnect/Open Directory

Preferred Background

- 10+ years experience in backend development
- Prior work on GraphQL + Go APIs at scale
- Familiarity with large enterprise or internal tools teams
- Strong debugging and Kubernetes CLI skills
- Excellent Git and shell scripting proficiency

Engagement Details

- Type: Contract / Freelance
- Duration: 3–6 months with potential for extension
- Location: Remote (with ability to work async to PST hours)
