VSS to GitHub Migration and CI/CD Setup

Objective

Lead the migration from Visual SourceSafe (VSS) to GitHub, build a Jenkins–Docker CI/CD pipeline from scratch, and integrate with Jira and Mattermost for automated workflows and communication.

Job Description / Scope & Key Deliverables
1. Version Control Transformation
Migrate repositories from VSS to GitHub with full history
Define branching strategies (GitFlow/GitHub Flow) and access controls
Implement security best practices (branch protection, SSH keys, secret scanning)
2. CI/CD Architecture (Jenkins & Docker)
Set up and secure on-premise Jenkins
Build reusable pipelines (Pipeline-as-Code using Groovy)
Standardize Docker containerization and private registry
Enable automated deployments via Docker Compose/Ansible
3. SRE & Observability
Implement monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana)
Define health checks and auto-recovery policies
Create runbooks and architecture documentation
4. Jira Integration
Enable Smart Commits for issue tracking
Automate release notes from PRs and build data
5. Mattermost (ChatOps)
Configure CI/CD alerts and notifications
(Optional) Enable chat-based build triggers and health checks
