Rails & React 1099 Developer
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
I need a 1099 contractor who can commit 20-40 hours a week to split their time between a brand-new Rails API with a React front-end and an older legacy Rails monolith. Both codebases matter equally to the business, so you’ll be jumping back and forth—building fresh features in the greenfield project while keeping the legacy app functional and stable.
We’ll kick things off with new feature development. The exact specs are still loose, so I’ll rely on you to help shape requirements, challenge assumptions, and translate rough product ideas into well-scoped user stories. Clean, well-tested, idiomatic Ruby and modern React are the baseline; RSpec, Jest/Testing Library, GitHub pull-requests, and CI/CD (we use GitHub Actions) are part of the day-to-day workflow.
Deliverables I expect each week:
• Pull requests for each feature with meaningful commits, passing tests, and clear documentation
• Short Loom or written walk-through explaining the business logic and any schema changes
• A brief end-of-week summary so we stay aligned on priorities and next steps
