Visual Studio and OpenAI ChatGPT Setup

I’m on macOS and want to get everything from the first download to the first commit running smoothly inside Visual Studio Code. I still need to install VS Code itself, so we’ll start there, verify the command-line tools, and make sure the path is set correctly.

Once VS Code is up, I’d like your help creating or importing an SSH key, connecting my GitHub account, and confirming that I can clone, push, and pull from a private test repository directly in the editor. Please explain what each setting does so I understand the workflow, not just copy steps.

Finally, I want to chat with OpenAI from within VS Code. If you already have a favourite extension for ChatGPT integration (CodeGPT, ChatGPT-Sidebar, etc.) let me know; otherwise I’m open to recommendations. We’ll install it together, drop in my API key, and run a quick prompt to confirm the connection.

Deliverables (checked live before we wrap up):
• VS Code installed and launching without warnings
• GitHub account authenticated, SSH key working, test repo pushed and pulled inside VS Code
• ChatGPT extension configured, able to respond inside the editor

A single video or screenshare session is fine, but please provide a brief follow-up note summarising the commands and menu paths we used so I can repeat the process on another Mac later.
