Memoir Essay Editing & Structure

Job ID: 40514666

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I have a series of draft essays that chronicle my years inside an abusive marriage and the path out of it. The voice is raw, personal and deeply emotional, and I want to keep every bit of that honesty on the page. What I need is a skilled ghost-editor who can tighten the prose, proofread line by line, and help me reshape the sequence so each piece flows naturally into the next.

You will work directly in my existing Word and Google Docs files, suggesting edits, smoothing transitions, and flagging any moments where the narrative could be clearer or more powerful. I’m looking for:

• A polished, error-free version of each essay that still sounds like me.
• A proposed structure or order that turns individual essays into a cohesive memoir arc, with brief notes explaining the rationale.
• Light guidance on pacing, chapter breaks, and thematic threads so the reader feels invited into—not overwhelmed by—these difficult memories.

Please be comfortable handling sensitive subject matter and preserving a survivor’s authentic voice. If you have experience with trauma-focused or women’s memoirs, let me know; sample pages showing your editorial touch will help me choose the right partner. Once we agree on the first batch of edits, we can move through the remaining drafts in milestones until the full manuscript is ready for a developmental review and final proof.
