Project Overview:

We are seeking a licensed structural engineer to provide a sealed foundation design for a new ~5,759 sq. ft. steel-frame barndominium residence located in Hallsville, Texas. The site contains expansive clay soil, and the foundation design must account for soil movement, slab stability, and steel anchoring.

The home will be constructed using a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) system, with approximately 3,000 sq. ft. of conditioned space, a 1,240 sq. ft. garage/shop, 538 sq. ft. front porch, 501 sq. ft. rear porch, and a 480 sq. ft. breezeway.

Scope of Work:

The selected engineer will:

1. Design a foundation system appropriate for PEMB construction and expansive clay soil:

Recommend and design either a post-tension slab, pier-and-beam with void boxes, or another proven system.

Include reinforcement details to mitigate soil movement.

Account for anchoring requirements for pre-engineered steel structure.



2. Coordinate with the building supplier to align anchor bolt layout and foundation embed dimensions with steel frame specs.


3. Include load-bearing calculations and recommendations for porch columns, garage loads, and breezeway connections.


4. Incorporate drainage and elevation considerations into the foundation design to maintain slab integrity (French drains, floor drains, garage channel drain).


5. Deliver sealed foundation plans suitable for submission to the city/county and for use by the general contractor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas
