GIS Specialist for Land Transport Infrastructure Analysis
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
We are looking for an experienced GIS specialist to extract, analyze, and categorize road and transport infrastructure data for Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
Scope of Work
1. Data Extraction & Categorization
• Extract GIS datasets related to road networks, bridges, and key transport infrastructure.
• Categorize roads by jurisdiction (National vs. Provincial roads).
• Further classify roads based on surface type (sealed, unsealed, gravel, dirt, etc.).
• Incorporate metadata attributes, including road condition, trafficability, and connectivity.
2. Distance & Accessibility Calculations
• Perform spatial analysis to calculate road distances by road type
• Identify gaps in data.
3. Administrative Breakdown
• Structure extracted data into District, Ward, and Local-Level Government (LLG) boundaries.
• Ensure compatibility with administrative GIS layers for better planning integration.
Please note that a number of relevant GIS datasets will be provided to the successful applicant.
Deliverables
- Outputs will predominantly be in form of excel tables, as intent of project is to use GIS to understand the quantum of bridges, roads within LLGs by condition, type etc.
- The analysis is to be undertaken on separate GIS layers provided - as there are multiple data sources covering the same thing, but with different metadata
- May require creation of amalgamation of GIS layers
- Full scope to be confirmed with successful applicant.
Requirements
• Proficiency in ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar GIS software.
• Experience in road network analysis and transport infrastructure mapping.
• Ability to work with and enhance existing datasets, ensuring high accuracy and usability.
Project Details
1. Timeline & Milestones – As soon as possible. Initial task not expected to take too long. Additional works may be required though, as separate projects.
2. Budget & Payment Terms – Competitive proposals welcome.
