GIS Ecosystem Services Mapping
Budget: €8 – €30 EUR
My project concerns the creation of detailed ecosystem service maps in Soave (Verona, Italy), specifically focusing on food and fiber provisioning services, carbon sequestration and soil erosion regulation, as well as cultural services. I require these maps as soon as possible. Using QGIS, I want maps that can clearly illustrate the areas and degrees of these services to guide environmental management decisions.
Aim of the Project
The aim of this thesis is to elucidate the ecosystem services provided by steep slope agriculture within the Soave district, exploring how these services can be effectively mapped, assessed, and optimized using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP).
The Study Objective
The objective of this study is to conduct a detailed assessment of the various ecosystem services offered by steep slope agriculture, particularly provision, regulation, and cultural services, and to evaluate their significance in the context of environmental sustainability and local quality of life. Specific objectives include:
1. To analyze the spatial distribution of key ecosystem services in steep slope agricultural area.
2. To apply AHP for prioritizing ecosystem services based on their relative importance.
3. To integrate GIS and AHP results to provide a comprehensive overview of ecosystem services distribution and value.
4. To make recommendations for sustainable agricultural practices and policy formulations based on the findings.
For this task you will need:
Skills:
- High proficiency in Geographic Information Systems, particularly in creating ecosystem service maps.
- Strong understanding of ecosystem services, such as carbon sequestration and soil erosion regulation.
- Ability to turn complex data into clear, understandable maps.
Experience:
- Previous work on environmental or ecosystem service projects will be highly appreciated.
- Experiencing in mapping and analysing carbon sequestration and soil erosion factors.
The capacity to deliver these requirements promptly is integral for this project.
