Forest Classification for Australian Rangelands

We deliver native forest projects across Australian rangelands. We are seeking a GIS expert to assist us to develop a detailed set of procedures for the classification of satellite imagery to identify areas of forest (20% canopy cover greater than 2m in height across 0.2 ha area) and transitional forest (5% to 19% canopy cover greater than 2m in height across 0.2 ha area). The areas to be classified vary from 5,000 to 150,000 ha.

The required procedures would consist of a detailed set of instruction that could be implemented by a GIS analyst to do the following:
1. Source appropriate imagery for a target date
2. Procedure to train the classification algorithm
3. Implementation of algorithm
4. Accuracy assessment of classification results
5. Areas for ongoing improvement

The procedures should consider the best available data and technology to deliver the most accurate results within a given budget.
