Project Description – Genetic Algorithms (Matlab)
Implementation of a genetic algorithm from scratch in Matlab (no use of built-in functions such as ga)
Approximation of an unknown continuous function f(u1, u2) using a linear combination of Gaussian functions
Maximum number of Gaussian functions: up to 15
Optimization of Gaussian parameters (weights, centers, variances) using the genetic algorithm
Generation of input–output datasets for training
Use of a separate input–output dataset for evaluation and validation
Reference function for evaluation: sin(u1 + u2) * sin(u2^2)
Input ranges:
u1 in range [-1, 2]
u2 in range [-2, 1]
Focus on low model complexity and good approximation accuracy
Full Matlab project delivery (fully working and well-structured code)
Clear, commented, and easy-to-understand Matlab code
Delivery of a PDF report including:
Problem description
Methodology
Results and evaluation
Comments and conclusions
Final delivery in ZIP format according to university project requirements
