Tennis for Two: 1958 Game Replica
Budget: $20,000 – $50,000 CAD
I am looking for someone to design and build a fully working physical model of Tennis for Two, the 1958 analog video game created by William Higinbotham. The goal is to recreate the core experience and behavior of the original system as faithfully as possible while allowing for practical, modern construction where necessary.
The model should simulate a two-player tennis game viewed from the side, with a ball following a realistic parabolic trajectory affected by gravity and player input. Each player should have a controller (or equivalent input device) that allows them to hit the ball back and forth over a central “net.” The display should resemble the original oscilloscope-style output (either using a real oscilloscope or a modern display convincingly styled to match the look and behavior of one).
Key expectations:
Two-player functionality with responsive, real-time controls
Accurate ball physics (gravity-based arc, bounce, net interaction)
Visual output consistent with the original Tennis for Two aesthetic
Stable, repeatable operation suitable for demonstration or exhibition
I am open to different technical approaches (analog circuitry, digital simulation with analog-style output, or a hybrid), as long as the end result functions correctly and captures the historical feel of the original game. Documentation explaining how the system works and how to operate it would be appreciated.
