Build PvP Fantasy MMO World
Budget: $9 – $10 AUD
I want to create an expansive fantasy universe for a PC-based MMO that plays first and foremost like a role-playing game, yet revolves around thrilling, skill-driven Player-vs-Player combat. The brief is to take the project from concept all the way to a playable world slice that proves the core loop is fun, balanced, and technically solid.
What I need from you
• A cohesive world vision: lore, regions, and map layouts that naturally funnel players into competitive encounters without feeling forced.
• Combat-centric RPG systems: classes, abilities, gear progression, and matchmaking tuned for fair yet intense PvP.
• Technical groundwork: a client-server architecture, authoritative networking scheme, and stress-test plan that can scale to “massive” numbers on PC.
• Visual and audio direction: an art style guide, key environment block-outs, and placeholder sound cues that convey the intended mood while remaining production-ready.
• Milestone builds: a grey-box prototype (movement, targeting, basic abilities), a closed-alpha arena showing combat flow, and finally an open zone that demonstrates quest hooks feeding into PvP objectives.
• Clear documentation: design bible, data tables, and commented source so additional team members can pick up the torch.
Acceptance criteria
1. Twenty or more simultaneous players can join a dedicated server, fight, respawn, and log stats with no critical bugs for 30 minutes.
2. Three distinct class archetypes feel different yet balanced in a recorded internal play-test.
3. At least one explorable zone (≈1 km²) showcases environmental storytelling and two quest chains that culminate in a PvP event.
You’re free to suggest engines, middleware, or pipelines you excel with—Unreal Engine, Unity with Netcode, or a custom solution—as long as it fits the PC focus and can be profiled for latency. If this vertical slice delivers on the above, we will expand into full-scale production together.
Show me relevant MMO or real-time networked game samples, outline the tools you plan to use, and describe how you would tackle the first milestone.
