Game designer for Red Dead Redemption 2
Budget: $750 – $1,500 CAD
Custom Mod Name: Dominion of Blood & Gold
This series is a mature, alternate-history overhaul for Red Dead Redemption 2, focused on brutal combat, deep colonial management, immersive language mechanics, dynamic storytelling, and magical world control. The following describes the core features and systems to be implemented.
1. Combat Overhaul
The combat system will be dramatically overhauled to create fast-paced, intense, and disturbing encounters. New animations depict gruesome violence: limbs can be torn or shot off, bones visibly broken, deep wounds and slices show on bodies, and persistent injuries leave lasting marks. Reactions to trauma are fully dynamic; NPCs can tremble, panic, flee, drop their weapons, beg, freeze, or go into shock depending on their personality and the scenario. The damage system is highly realistic, influencing combat duration and NPC survivability.
---
2. Faction System
Players encounter or can join two major factions: the Spanish Armada and the United States Army. The US Army retains their standard uniforms and command structure, while the Spanish Armada is fully custom with unique uniforms per unit type, banners, weapon sets, and voice lines in Spanish. Each faction has its own AI routines, battle strategies, and recruitment systems. Faction control affects world state, influencing town occupation, law enforcement, and patrols.
---
3. Town Management System
Occupied territories feature a full management system inspired by Tropico. As a colonial leader, you control resource production, infrastructure, and social policy for each town. You can build and upgrade farms, mines, cabarets, schools, and defensive works. Spanish towns transform culturally: residents speak Spanish, cabarets feature live performances of salsa, bachata, flamenco, and orchestral music, and venues are visually renovated into opulent resort-like spaces. Construction requires only materials, not upfront money. Players can assign Colonial Overseers to automate provincial management, and social classes have different needs and events. Affluent communities will feature more sophisticated venues such as symphonies and orchestras.
---
4. Player Palace and Island
The player receives a Victorian-style palace located on a tropical island under Spanish occupation. The estate is fully customizable with lavish interiors, staff, libraries, trophy halls, and secret rooms. The palace serves as both a personal home and a hub for political, administrative, and magical activities. Island management includes social events, personal security, and economic resources.
---
5. Radiant Trench Game Mode
Once the map is largely conquered, a special trench warfare game mode unlocks. In this mode, the player can either participate directly or spectate as a random Spanish soldier, fighting to hold the line in ongoing battles against the United States. Death results in immediate respawn as a new soldier, with the goal of holding ground as trenches become more fortified and dangerous. Alternatively, the player can remain in command mode, issuing strategies from a war table, deploying troops, and watching battle outcomes through field binoculars. Trench levels are progressively more challenging, with weather, supply, morale, and fortification upgrades influencing each encounter.
---
6. Island Office and Administration
Administrative gameplay centers around an office in your palace. Here, you can sign laws, approve or veto construction, handle taxes, meet with diplomats, elite families, and military officials, and host formal dinners or private summits. These choices have tangible consequences on the stability, prosperity, and reputation of your territories. Events and political intrigues are procedurally generated, requiring negotiation, bribery, alliances, or decisive leadership.
---
7. Advanced AI Overhaul
NPCs possess a new, dynamic awareness system and expanded voicelines. They react to changing events, discuss current news, comment on your actions, and develop relationships with the player and each other. In Spanish-occupied towns, civilians sometimes bow, kneel, or present you with tributes. The player can issue orders to any civilian or soldier using either spoken English or Spanish; all responses are in Spanish. NPCs follow complex schedules, pursue ambitions, and evolve based on world events.
---
8. Immersive Conversation System
Players can interact with NPCs through both text and voice, in English or Spanish. NPCs always respond in Spanish, with no subtitles or translations, creating a genuine language barrier. The system uses AI tools such as Mantella to process speech and generate context-appropriate replies. The only way to understand is to learn the language through immersion, repetition, or by using an in-game dictionary. Social interactions are context-aware; trust and respect are gained by attempting Spanish, while only using English can make you appear distant or colonial. NPCs’ replies and conversation depth are influenced by social standing, personal history, and recent events in their community.
---
9. City Event Hosting
As a ruler, you can host major city events: military parades, public festivals, conga lines, lockdowns, and more. These events have wide-ranging effects, boosting morale, imposing order, or inciting unrest depending on timing, location, and world state. All events are fully voiced, animated, and attended by local populations and officials.
---
10. Mission Board and Magic Mirror System
Inside your palace or office, you maintain a mission board for your territory. From here, you can create, assign, and monitor missions such as bounties, raids, deliveries, espionage, and town improvements. Once accepted by NPCs, missions play out dynamically, with outcomes affecting the world and the individual involved. In the Arkaneum—a ritualistic room within your palace—there is a Magic Mirror, an enchanted device that lets you spectate these missions in real time. The mirror can shift to a bird’s eye view over any city or village, allowing you to monitor activities, manage towns, and inspect NPCs directly. Selecting any NPC reveals their biography, thoughts, career, social links, and life events. Advanced players can intervene magically, issuing commands, blessings, or curses, and making management decisions as if playing a city-builder in real time. The mirror consumes magical resources to operate and displays all information in-world, with no artificial UI overlays.
---
11. Emergent Storytelling and Replayability
Every mission and city event generates unique stories, sometimes tragic, sometimes heroic, sometimes darkly comedic. As ruler, your intervention, oversight, and judgment shape the fate of your empire. Mission replays, magical surveillance, and a deeply simulated world ensure no two playthroughs are the same. Players can save and review the best or worst moments, which become a living record of their reign.
---
This mod series is intended for a mature audience and will push the boundaries of immersion, brutality, and interactive storytelling. It combines colonial management, real-time world interaction, immersive language challenges, and dark narrative themes to create a living world where the player is both ruler and observer, feared and respected, and always at the center of history’s bloodiest chapters.
