Design of Vortex Flow Chamber for 3” OD Bottle with Internal Helical Grooves
Budget: ₹600 – ₹1,500 INR
Project Description
Design a cylindrical vortex chamber to generate strong swirling flow using a 40 L/min water pump. The chamber will hold a 3-inch OD bottle inside, so proper clearance and flow gap must be maintained. The system is stationary and used for vortex-based cooling/mixing.
Geometry Specifications
Bottle Outer Diameter: 76 mm (3 inch)
Chamber Inner Diameter: 100–110 mm (to maintain flow gap around bottle)
Chamber Height: 280 mm (11 inch)
Radial Clearance (water gap): 10–15 mm around bottle
Material: PVC or Aluminum
Wall Thickness: As per design recommendation
Scope of Work
Cylinder & Groove Design
Design internal helical grooves (3-start configuration)
Groove depth: ~3 mm
Groove width: ~6 mm
Helix angle: ~20°
Pitch: ~100 mm
Grooves must be on inner wall (not on bottle)
Smooth internal finish with rounded edges
Inlet Design
Tangential inlet (side entry)
Diameter: 12–16 mm
Position: ~25 mm from bottom
Angle: Tangential with slight downward inclination
Outlet Design
Top central outlet
Diameter: ~20 mm
Flow Requirements
Ensure strong vortex formation around bottle
Uniform swirling flow along full height
Optimize flow in annular space between bottle and chamber wall
Minimize dead zones and pressure losses
Deliverables
3D CAD model (STEP / STL format)
2D dimensioned drawings
Assembly showing bottle placement inside chamber
Design file (SolidWorks / Fusion 360 preferred)
Required Skills
Fluid Dynamics / CFD
Mechanical Design (CAD)
Experience with vortex / cyclone / internal flow systems
Additional Requirements
Design must be suitable for CNC machining or practical fabrication
Internal features must be durable and manufacturable
Bottle should be easily insertable and removable
