DFM Tweaks for Bayonet CAD
Budget: $30 – $250 CAD
My Fusion 360 assembly is already modeled—a cylindrical outer housing and a matching inner sleeve joined by twist-and-lock bayonet tracks. Before I send it to JLCNC for inexpensive 3-/4-axis milling, I need one quick round of refinement so their automated DFM checker sails through.
Here is exactly what has to happen:
• Apply generous, cutter-friendly fillets to every sharp corner on both the internal locking tracks and the outer housing surfaces. Pick radii that match off-the-shelf end-mills so no custom tooling is needed.
• Open up the internal twist-and-lock paths by 0.2 mm throughout, guaranteeing smooth sliding between the sleeves even after anodising or bead-blast.
• Keep overall geometry intact—only tolerance and fillet edits.
• Return a clean, manifold STEP file (and, if convenient, the updated .f3d) ready for my factory upload.
No further design iterations are expected; this is a single pass to make the model machinist-friendly.
