Nonprofit fundraising expert
Budget: $2,500 – $10,000 USD
The Anusara School of Hatha Yoga, an international nonprofit yoga school, seeks a hands-on individual or company with knowledge of and experience in nonprofit fundraising to help the Board of Director's Fundraising Committee complete and implement its first-ever Fundraising Plan. The Plan needs to be designed to diversify the School's revenue streams and increase revenue over time to reach $500,000 annually. We are looking for someone who will be sensitive to and comfortable working within the School's limited resources and enjoys working collaboratively with Board and staff rather than simply directing them. This short-term $10,000 contract has the potential to grow into a longer-term position if fundraising efforts are successful.
We worked unsuccessfully with 2 other fundraisers. They did not grasp or adapt to two important aspects of the organization: 1) We are running an international yoga school & nonprofit with 2.5 FTEs on a budget of about $200,000 USD, and 2) our Board of Directors is comprised of very intelligent and hard-working yoga teachers who have little to no experience with nonprofit fundraising. The support we need must be '"right-sized" for our organization.
Please note that we are looking for someone who will be hands-on, who's willing to roll up their sleeves and work alongside us, not just come up with lots of ideas and then sit back and hope we implement them!
Whomever we hire must enjoy the educational process involved in this work. Otherwise, they will get frustrated. This is a smart, knowledge group but very green when it comes to nonprofit fundraising.
Another consideration: Although we have a our 501(c)(3) status, we are not a charitable organization. We are a membership organization; our 750+ teachers around the world make up our membership although we hope to expand that to include the estimated 400,000 Anusara yoga students around the world. We also want to pursue grants that will enable our highly-trained teachers to bring Anusara yoga to typically under-served communities such as people who are incarcerated.
