React Node Full Stack Upgrade
Budget: $2 – $8 USD
I run a production web platform built with React on the front end and Node/Express on the back end. The core product is stable, but several areas now need a thoughtful upgrade cycle. React components still rely on legacy class syntax, some dependencies are years out of date, and our Node runtime is frozen on an older LTS.
Your job is to take ownership of the full stack refresh. That means modernising the React layer with hooks, updating Webpack/Babel, tightening state management, then mirroring those improvements server-side by bringing packages to their current versions, enhancing API structure and error handling, and closing the inevitable security gaps that appear during the process. Continuous integration (GitHub Actions), Jest and React Testing Library are already in place and must remain green throughout each pull request.
Every change should arrive as a clean PR with concise commit messages and a brief changelog so I can review progress easily. Once the upgrade is complete, I’ll need a final hand-off that covers new build steps, environment variables and any breaking-change notes my in-house team should know.
If you have a proven track record with React 18, Node 18+, Express, and the usual tooling orbit (ESLint, Prettier, Docker, Git), I’d love to hear how you would approach this upgrade path and an estimated timeline to get us there.
