Full-Stack Developer for Long-Term Ownership

Job ID: 40129254

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

We are looking for a highly experienced Full-Stack Developer to take complete ownership of an existing, complex production system. This is a long-term project suited for someone who is comfortable working with large codebases, making architectural decisions, and improving systems that are already live.
This role goes beyond feature delivery — it involves understanding the system end-to-end, identifying weaknesses, and steadily improving performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Project Overview
The project is a feature-rich web application with a NestJS / Node.js backend and React frontend. The system is already in production and actively used. We are now looking to stabilize, optimize, and extend the platform.
You will have full ownership of the codebase, including backend APIs, integrations, and frontend feature workflows.

Scope of Work
• Take ownership of the existing backend and frontend codebase
• Understand current architecture and data flows
• Identify and fix bugs, edge cases, and performance bottlenecks
• Design and implement new features across backend and frontend
• Optimize API response times and database queries
• Improve code quality, structure, and maintainability
• Ensure proper error handling, logging, and testing
• Communicate clearly on progress, trade-offs, and technical decisions
Tech Stack
• Backend: NestJS, Node.js
• Frontend: React
• Database: MongoDB
• APIs: REST, JWT authentication
• Infrastructure: Cloud-hosted (AWS)
What We’re Looking For
• Strong experience with NestJS, Node.js, and React in production
• Ability to work independently and own the system end-to-end
• Experience debugging and improving complex, real-world codebases
• Solid understanding of performance optimization and scalability
• Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions simply
• Comfortable collaborating with non-technical stakeholders when needed
Engagement Details
• Long-term engagement preferred
• Flexible working hours
• Competitive compensation based on experience
• Direct communication and real ownership — not task-by-task micromanagement
If you enjoy owning systems, improving existing products, and building reliable software the right way, this project will be a great fit.
