vBulletin data migration to Discouse
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
Bullshido is looking to convert legacy vBulletin 5 forum topics and their posts to our new Discourse forums. Existing vBulletin backlinks should be preserved in the new Discourse enviornment.
Access and technical details:
Bullshido will provide read-only access to the legacy MySQL database.
Bullshido will provide read-only access to the vBulletin code, as installed.
Bullshido will provide a full access development copy of the Discourse forums.
vBulletin and Discourse installs exist in different data centers; there is no direct connection.
As the installed userbase has changed, there must be a way to generate placeholder users in the target Discourse environment, as well as allow for mapping users from vBulletin to existing users with different names in the Discourse environment.
All code produced will be property of Bullshido.
Acceptance criteria:
Solution shall be able to specify individual topics from the legacy vBulletin to be exported.
Solution shall be able to target a specific category or categories in the target Discourse to import topics.
Solution must demonstrate functional backlinks in the Discourse environment that replicate public access to vBulletin forum pages.
Bullshido is able to map users across the two environments.
Phase 1:
Developer will be granted access and have an opportunity to ask questions, or to reject the work.
Phase 2:
Developer will demonstrate a small proof of concept. Upon demonstrating correct functionality in the development environment, Bullshido will replicate the proof of concept in the production environment.
Phase 3:
Developer to perform all exports on vBulletin, and work with Bullshido to perform imports on production Discourse.
