Custom Linux Server Image Creation
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I need a purpose-built Ubuntu-based server image that installs cleanly and starts working straight away—no desktop layer, no local login, just an install-only ISO that I can hand to datacentre staff.
Core stack that must be pre-integrated and verified:
• accel-ppp compiled with all typical modules
• PHP 8.4 with common extensions
• iptables set as the default packet filter (nftables disabled)
• FRR routing suite ready for BGP/OSPF configuration
• OpenSSH enabled for remote administration (key auth only, root login disabled)
Security hardening is critical. I want console TTYs disabled, no greeter or graphical login, and all unused services masked. The built image should ship with an opinionated firewall policy that blocks everything except the ports I later open through iptables.
Because this server will run on mixed hardware, every available upstream networking driver needs to be present and loaded automatically, from Intel and Broadcom to newer Mellanox cards.
Deliverables:
1. Repeatable build script or Packer/Live-build recipe producing the bootable ISO.
2. The finished ISO itself, ready for USB or PXE deployment.
3. Quick README outlining build steps, default credentials, and how to extend the firewall rules.
