Using Opensess for High-Rise Dynamic Seismic Analysis
Budget: $30 – $250 CAD
I am conducting an earthquake-engineering study for a high-rise building and need the complete dynamic analysis performed in OpenSees (spelled “opensess” in the brief). The model must capture the building’s global and inter-story response under ground-motion records and ultimately provide displacement and drift results that I can slot straight into my larger performance-based design report.
Scope of work
• Build or refine the finite-element model of the building in OpenSees, including gravity load cases, material non-linearity where appropriate, and all required dynamic mass participation.
• Select, scale, and apply representative earthquake records (I can supply them if you prefer) and run the full time-history analysis.
• Extract, plot, and tabulate floor displacements, inter-story drifts, and any other intermediate data required to verify the results.
Deliverables
1. All OpenSees input files (.tcl) ready to rerun.
2. A concise PDF report containing:
– Story-by-story displacement and drift graphs,
– Peak and residual drift tables,
– A short commentary on model assumptions, damping, convergence, and verification checks.
3. A brief “read-me” noting how to reproduce the results on a standard OpenSees installation.
Acceptance criteria
• Drift results reproduce within 2 % when I rerun your files on my machine.
• Plots are clearly labeled and dimensionally consistent.
• Model assumptions and parameter choices are transparent and justifiable.
If you are comfortable with OpenSees scripting, dynamic time-history procedures, and extracting drift demand for tall buildings, this job should be straightforward. I’m responsive and can supply architectural/structural drawings plus any code spectra you might need once we start.
