Objectives:
1. To model and analyse a 2D structure using structural analysis software.
2. To determine the capacity of the structure using non-linear analysis.
3. To compare the effects of nonlinearity to the analysis.
Part 1: 2D linear analysis of frame structure
The frame in Figure 1 is subjected to gravity and lateral loads as shown. The frame is a steel structure.
1. Analyse the frame using any structural analysis software.
2. Check the capacity of the structure.
State all assumptions made.
Part 2: Non-linear analysis of frame structure
1. Analyse the frame in part (1) as follows.
• First order elastic analysis
• Second order elastic analysis
• First order inelastic analysis
• Second order inelastic analysis
• Elastic buckling analysis
2. Show the detailed hinge formation at yield and ultimate for the inelastic analysis.
3. Compare and discuss the results in (1)
