Plastic Beam Load Analysis
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I’m finalising a design that relies on custom-extruded plastic beams and I need a structural engineer to verify that the profiles can safely carry the required static loads. The beams will sit outdoors year-round, so UV exposure, temperature swings, and moisture must be factored into the material performance.
Scope of work
• Analyse the beams under varying distributed static loads (no concentrated or impact loading).
• Confirm allowable stresses, maximum span, and predicted deflection for the specified polymer grade.
• Identify governing failure modes and provide factors of safety.
• Advise on section modifications or reinforcement if the current profile proves inadequate.
• Supply a concise calculation package and a short narrative summary that I can forward to my fabricator and certifying body.
I can share CAD drawings, material data sheets, and preliminary load cases as soon as we start. Calculations may be completed in software such as SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or your preferred FEA tool, as long as the method is clearly documented.
I’m looking for an engineer with demonstrable experience in plastic or composite beam design under outdoor service conditions, ideally familiar with creep and long-term deflection considerations. A quick turnaround is appreciated, but accuracy comes first.
