I need a detailed investigation of how a reinforced concrete slab responds when an air-burst explosion occurs above it. The study must capture the slab’s global deformation as well as the initiation and propagation of cracks, so that I can judge whether the current design can survive the specified threat level or if strengthening measures are required.

Scope of work
• Build or refine a finite-element (or comparable) model of the slab, incorporating reinforcement layout, boundary conditions, and any membrane effects that influence blast behaviour.
• Apply an air-burst pressure-time history appropriate to the standoff distance I will provide (CONWEP, UFC 3-340-02 or similar is acceptable).
• Run transient dynamic analyses to obtain displacement fields, principal stress / strain contours, and crack patterns over time.
• Summarise peak deflection, residual deformation, and zones of severe cracking, and compare results against relevant acceptance criteria (for example, UFC or Eurocode limits).

Deliverables
1. Editable model files (e.g., ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, ANSYS—use whichever solver you are most comfortable with).
2. A concise technical memo (PDF) describing modelling assumptions, material properties, blast load definition, mesh sensitivity, and key results, supported by clear plots and screenshots.
3. Recommendations, if any, for slab thickness, reinforcement ratio, or retrofitting strategies based on the findings.
