retirement planning

I'm a teacher in CA. I would like information on how strs and ss mesh. What can I expect out of ss as it relates to my teacher retirement. Also, how will me getting a much hirer paying job effect my retirement. If I increase my retirement via a higher paying job will I decrease ss, thus making such a drastic change in my lifestyle worth it?
