Budget: ₹12,500 – ₹37,500 INR
UI Designer Project Brief:
Project Title: UI Design for Beam — Accessible Wellness & Meditation App
Client: Beam App (in partnership with SHBS – Spearhead Business Solutions)
Duration: 3–4 weeks
Platform: Mobile-first (Android + iOS) with tablet compatibility
Project Overview:
Beam is a wellness and meditation app designed specifically for individuals with neurological conditions, chronic pain, disabilities, and their carers. It delivers inclusive, accessible, and personalized wellness through meditation, breathwork, NSDR, and sleep support.
The app is being developed by Spearhead Business Solutions (SHBS). We are looking for a UI designer who can take over the design responsibilities, using existing mock-ups and mascots as inspiration, and deliver a fully accessible and consistent UI system.
What We’re Looking For:
A UI designer who can:
• Translate our vision into a high-fidelity, production-ready UI
• Build a design system consistent across multiple wellness modules
• Deliver accessibility-first, user-friendly, and emotionally resonant designs
• Integrate mascot illustrations into the user journey (inspired by Duolingo)
• Collaborate smoothly with our development team (SHBS) for design handoff
Deliverables:
The designer is expected to provide the following.
High-Fidelity Screens -
o Full UI mock-ups for all core screens of the app (Home, Explore, Sleep, Meditation, Breathwork, Unity Sessions, etc.)
o Both light and dark mode versions (if feasible within timeline)
UI Kit -
o Colours, typography, buttons, forms, navigation, icons, and other reusable components
Design System -
o Component library with naming consistency
o Guidelines for spacing, padding, states (hover, active, disabled), etc.
Asset Exports -
o Exported assets (icons, illustrations, mascots, etc.) in usable formats for SHBS dev team
o Scalable formats for different screen sizes (mobile/tablet)
Note: Prototypes, interactive flows, or animations are not expected. Those will be handled in-house by SHBS.
Design References:
• Rootd – for its clean, purpose-driven UI and calming tone
• Duolingo – for mascot integration and playful feedback loops
• Headspace / Calm – for emotional tone and user guidance through wellness content
Design Requirements:
Visual Style -
• Soothing, inclusive, and clean
• Friendly but professional
• Soft gradients, minimal distractions
• Typography must prioritize readability
Accessibility -
• Designs must be accessible to users with cognitive, visual, and motor impairments
• Avoid red-green contrast, flashing visuals, or low contrast elements
• Maintain general alignment with WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines (basic reference: https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/wcag/)
Mascot Integration:
Beam includes a series of custom mascots created by our founder, to be used across the app. The mascot system will work as follows.
• Main Mascot: Acts as the guide for onboarding, encouragement, and emotional motivation (similar to Duolingo’s owl).
• Other Mascots: Represent different wellness categories (e.g., breathwork, sleep, recovery) and appear within specific modules.
We expect the designer to:
• Visually integrate mascots into appropriate screens
• Suggest positioning and interaction style (e.g., onboarding helper, motivational nudges, progress cheer)
• Balance mascots use so it remains meaningful, not excessive
Content Categories:
Designs will need to accommodate the following modules:
• Meditations (organized by condition, intention, time of day)
• Sleep Stories & Sounds (brown/pink/white noise, stories)
• Breathwork (e.g., NSDR, physiological sigh)
• Unity Sessions (for carers + loved ones)
• Daily Routines (Morning, Afternoon, Evening)
• Explore/Search (with filters by voice, condition, intent)
• Time Out (quick 5–10-minute relaxation feature)
Home Screen Must-Haves:
• Personalized greeting
• Quick access carousel
• Favourites
• Recently used
• Explore bar
• Timer (Time Out feature)
Full wireframe content is available and will be shared post-hiring. The visual flow is guided by existing mock-ups and updated mascots.
Branding Notes:
• A new logo is being created separately. The current UI design should proceed without being dependent on a fixed logo.
• If the designer feels they need the logo to complete the UI structure, we can fast-track logo development accordingly.
Tools & Handoff:
• All designs should be created in Figma
• All screens must be organized into clear pages with naming conventions
• Deliverables must be fully ready for handoff to the development team
Timeline:
• Project start: Immediate (flexible based on designer availability)
• Duration: 4–5 weeks
• Weekly check-ins expected with the product and development teams
Ownership & IP:
All final design assets, components, and files will be fully owned by Beam (Gemma) and SHBS. The designer will not retain rights for reuse or portfolio without explicit written permission.
Next Steps:
Please share:
• Your portfolio with relevant UI work (especially wellness, accessibility, or mascot-integrated designs)
• Your availability and expected timeline
• Your pricing structure
Let us know if you have questions. We're looking forward to working with a designer who shares our vision for inclusive digital wellness.
