CALL OUT: Seeking a Freelance Fashion Designer for Melbourne Fashion Week Partnership

We are currently seeking a freelance fashion designer to collaborate with us on an exciting opportunity for Melbourne Fashion Week 2025.

Who we are:
What Were You Wearing? (WWYW) Australia is a national, Aboriginal-led organisation working to end sexual, domestic, and family violence. We support over 50,000 victim-survivors across the country, run healing groups, deliver education programs, and advocate for systemic change. We're passionate about using storytelling, art, and fashion to challenge harmful narratives and create social impact.

The Opportunity:
Last year, we launched the WWYW Exhibition, a powerful survivor-led art installation that displayed clothing worn at the time of people’s assaults—shifting the narrative around victim-blaming and asking the critical question: What were you wearing?

This year, we want to take this concept to the next level by adapting the exhibition into a runway fashion show for Melbourne Fashion Week. This project will centre storytelling, healing, and empowerment through fashion—featuring pieces that reclaim autonomy, challenge stigma, and celebrate survivor strength.

We’re looking to co-design and co-submit this application with a freelance fashion designer who shares our values and vision. Ideally, you’ll have a passion for bold, purpose-driven work and an interest in collaborating with an organisation led by and for victim-survivors.

If you're a designer ready to use your creative skills to be part of something deeply meaningful and culturally powerful—we'd love to hear from you.

To express interest or learn more, please email us! Applications for M/FW close soon, so we’re moving quickly!
