About the Role:
We're seeking a skilled Data Analyst with a passion for horse racing and a knack for turning complex data into valuable insights. In this role, you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining a comprehensive database of virtual race horse data, derived from various sources including PDF race reports. You'll also be tasked with developing automated systems to streamline data entry and manage data conversion. Your insights will be instrumental in identifying the fastest horses on average at different segments in the race.
Responsibilities:
Download, review, and analyze race report PDFs, extracting key data points for entry into a database.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of virtual race horse data.
Automate data entry processes and manage data conversion from PDF to a database-friendly format.
Analyze data to identify key metrics, trends, and insights about virtual horse racing performance.
Create visualizations and reports to communicate data findings to the team.
Continuously improve processes and systems for more efficient data collection, entry, and analysis.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Data Analyst or similar role.
Strong knowledge of and experience with databases (SQL etc), data manipulation languages (Python, R etc), and data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI etc).
Experience with data extraction and conversion tools, especially from PDFs.
Proficient in data automation processes.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A passion for horse racing or familiarity with the industry is a plus.
