Google Spreadsheet-Import Range Operational Issues

The Project is with reference to the import range function in google spreadsheet which is used for combining/consolidating data from multiple google spreadsheets.
We observed the following issue while using the import range function:-
1. Import range function is taking time to import data from multiple sheets(few seconds/minutes) & thus the correct real-time visibility is hampered in case of the large data where source of the data is from multiple google sheets.
2. If we download a particular google sheet & open the file in MS-Excel, all the data links pertaining to the import range do not show the correct picture & formula error is shown in this case.
Requirement:-
Is there any function/code/solution wherein we can have sturdy data from multiple google sheets which can be updated on a real-time basis.
Also, is there any solution which can also cover the point no.2 as mentioned above so that the downloaded sheet does not counter these errors.
