H-Beam Structural Deflection Check

Job ID: 40535048

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

My span is 9.16 m and I need written confirmation that a 254 × 254 steel H-beam, paired with matching side columns, will keep deflection low enough for a full-width glass sliding door directly beneath it. The roof load is light—just rafters and metal sheets—so I’m expecting relatively small service loads, but I still want the numbers to prove the beam won’t sag and crack the glass.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

• Structural calculations (bending, shear, and deflection) for the 254 × 254 section over 9.16 m under a light roof load.
• A brief comparison with at least one alternative steel size, in case the chosen section is either over- or under-spec.
• Column sizing for each end.
• Recommended welded or bolted connection details (I have no preference, so pick what best meets code and ease of erection).
• A short summary explaining compliance with the relevant Eurocode / BS or AISC standard, whichever you normally design to.

A concise PDF report and the underlying calc sheet (Excel or similar) will be enough; no full drawing package needed.
