Analyze data from a traffic study using Synchro

Job ID: 35044344

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Please review the instructions carefully:

We conducted a traffic study for an un-signalized intersection, which is believed to have an unacceptable traffic condition. The junction is located at the intersection of a major street (with 2 lanes in each direction) and a minor street (with one lane in each direction) in a suburban residential area with a population of over 50,000. The intersection is currently controlled by a two-way STOP sign. The approach speed is 75 kph on the major street and 55 kph on the minor street. The average delay per vehicle is 1 minute on the minor street.

A 16-hour (6 AM to 10 PM) traffic count was conducted on an average weekday. The traffic count (in 15-minute intervals) for each of the four approaches of the intersection is given in the attached Excel sheet. Since the turning-movement traffic count was not conducted, assume the following information for the four approaches that you may need for your analysis: 10% of approach traffic turns right; 20% turns left; remaining traffic will go straight. In addition, the number of pedestrians crossing the major street is also provided. There were eight rear-end PDO crashes reported at this intersection in the last year.

What is required is to conduct the following analyses of this intersection:

- Signal warrant analysis using a manual (hand calculation) following the MUTCD
warrant analysis (use the pdf attached from pg. 36-47).

- Traffic analysis using the software: Synchro Warrant Analysis.

You need to prepare and deliver a short professional report describing the work completed, summarizing results and findings, and detailing the recommended solution. Attach the excel sheet and software file used in appendices. Using any CAD software to draw the solution is highly recommended.

Thank you
