PowerPoint Data Link Automation
Budget: $250 – $750 NZD
I have a 20-slide deck that needs to pull fresh figures from an accompanying Excel workbook. The file currently contains a mix of hard-typed numbers and legacy design elements, but I’m ready to streamline everything:
• Data to link: charts, graphs and several tabular ranges that sit in the Excel file now.
• Behaviour: once the macro is run, the slides should refresh quietly with static snapshots of the newest numbers—no live embedded OLE objects to bloat the file.
• Look & feel: the simpler the better. I’m happy to replace multiple patched-in tables with one clean table object and generally strip away any unnecessary styling.
I’m most comfortable if the connection is “push”-based through VBA (PowerPoint VBA or Excel controlling PowerPoint—whichever is cleaner), yet I’m open to clever alternatives that still avoid manual copy-paste.
Deliverables
1. A cleaned-up PPTX where every chart and table is fed by your VBA routine.
2. The macro code, clearly commented so I can tweak source paths later.
3. A brief text walkthrough of how to trigger the update.
solution MUST be portable, ie we can run this ppt publish from excel regradless of the folder it sits in. ie we cant have a rigid link path in teh ppt we cant edit at runtime.
If you have experience scripting this kind of Excel-to-PowerPoint automation and a good eye for tidy layouts, I’d love to see how you’d tackle it.
fyi, This project will take me approx 20 hours. 2-3 hours design, 1 day linking tables and charts, and then allow 1 day to refine, debug etc.
