Web Scraping - Horse racing
Budget: £20 – £250 GBP
Using the Sky Sports racecards https://www.skysports.com/racing/ I manually complete the attached sheet. When each column score is added together those scoring less than 11 are my focus and in particular those with single digits. It would be brilliant if this process could be automated and the data scraped from the website.
• Class – This info compares the class of the race (Example is Group 2) against the last run race which is included under the ‘formwatch’ section. If the horse is down in class eg ran in a Group 1 race last time and this is a Group 2 the it scores ‘1’, same class = 2, up in class scores ‘3’
o In the UK racing racing is graded as follows: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Listed, Class 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
• Consistency Wins – This relates to the number of wins in the horses form and the score is calculated as follows Won 71-100% of races = ‘1’, 41 – 70% = ‘2’, 21 -40% =’3’ if less than 20% then score 4
• Consistency place – This is the same as above scoring and data wise but relates to where the horse has finished 1st 2nd or 3rd
• Weight – This relates to the weight data. The scoring is as follows: top weight scores 3pts, for those horses within 5lbs of the top weight then they score 2 with all other scoring 1 point. Where all weights are the same such a Group races then all score 2 pts.
• Form/Class – This is a comparison with the class value and the position finished in the last race. If the horse has come in the top 3 in the last race and this race was in a higher or same class (eg scored 1 or 2 in the class field) then the horse would score 1. If the horse was top 3 in a lower class (eg scored 3) then this would score 2, all other positions would score 3
• Total – This is a total of all the above heading. I’m interested in those that score 11 especially those less than 10
