Initial School Engagement Week -Activities Booklet to complete
The Initial School Engagement Booklet is for trainee teachers commencing their PGCE Secondary course. You will need to complete six school-based investigation tasks.
You should complete the activities in this booklet
Observing lessons entails listening, watching, and mentally asking questions about what is going on while it is happening. This kind of active critical thinking is an important skill that it will be good for you to develop at the start of your training career. Making observations while a lesson is taking place is not easy; there is so much happening that it is sometimes difficult to pick out salient points unless you have a clear focus.
Having a clear focus for your observations is important and the ISE tasks are designed to help with that. However, your observation is not governed by this focus alone; you are free to make your own additional comments if these will demonstrate extra facets of your perceptions of what is happening during the lessons/extracts of lessons observed.
You will need to make notes while the videos are playing, and you can add to these afterwards having had time for reflection.
All investigation tasks that require you to watch a video will include a hyperlink so that you can easily locate the video online. Most of the videos will play via Youtube.
