Formal Paper about a Book
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
Considering the novel, write a rhetorical analysis paper on Citizen. When doing so, be sure to address in which ways you see the rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos, kairos) present and evaluate to what extent, the text is/is not successful in fulfilling its purpose, spreading its message, and persuading its audience. As you do so, you will need to explore the ways the story’s argument is or is not relevant today (students find this easiest to do near the end of their essays or in the conclusion).
Within the paper itself, you will need to incorporate quotes from the novel to further establish your points and connections. Use evidence from the book to prove your points. As you discuss the rhetorical appeals, consider also exploring literary elements you see in the novel that help you prove your point---(Literary elements such as symbols/motifs, themes, and/or the structure of the narrative itself. )
*** Your paper must have a strong thesis/ argument and must have a work(s) cited page. Make sure you incorporate quotes to support your claims. (When quoting, make sure you set up the quote, cite it in MLA format, briefly summarize it, and analyze the quote in depth. Connect the quote back to your thesis and your significance.)
