Close Reading Analysis

"Task: Choose one short story from this unit and make a claim about something that the text is doing. Support your claim with evidence from the text. You can examine a theme, discuss symbolism in the text, discuss the story in connection to another story, explore a character’s development in relation to the theme, offer an analysis of the story in relation to our course theme, or any other approach as discussed in class or in our course text. This is a thesis driven analysis that does not require outside research. You may include research if you so choose, but it is not required. Use specific portions of the text to support your claim and sub-claims. For example, if I were to say that Mrs. Mallard, in Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” genuinely loved her husband, I would support my assertion by citing specific examples (words) from the story that show that this is true. I would call attention to her true agony, even if short lived, and discuss her use of the phrase “bitter moment” when describing her husband in the casket (Chopin). Your essay should be 500-600 words."
