Eco-Conscious Initiative in Jakarta
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
PROJECT BRIEF FOR "GREEN JAKARTA, HEALTHY EARTH" SOCIAL CAMPAIGN
"Green Jakarta, Healthy Earth" is a social movement and hands-on initiative designed to address critical environmental challenges facing Indonesia’s capital city. Jakarta currently generates around 7,000 tons of waste per day, with much of it not managed optimally. Additionally, the city’s per capita green space remains below WHO-recommended standards – a situation that impacts air quality, increases flood risks, and affects the overall well-being of Jakarta’s residents.
To tackle these issues, the campaign will focus on waste management and tree planting across eight selected subdistricts: Kemang, Menteng, Kebayoran Baru, Kelapa Gading, Matraman, Tambora, Cilandak, and Pancoran. Our primary goals are to reduce unmanaged waste volume by 25% and plant 3,000 trees over a six-month period. We also aim to increase public understanding of the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to 70% within target areas, and establish 20 community-managed integrated waste collection points.
The campaign’s key audiences include local residents in the target subdistricts, students and teachers from 25 primary and secondary schools in surrounding areas, small and medium-sized businesses in the food, beverage, and retail sectors, as well as subdistrict authorities and the DKI Jakarta Environmental Management Board as our main partners.
Planned activities include outreach through local media, digital content, brochures, and community environmental walks; practical training on recycling and upcycling waste materials into usable products; tree-planting events involving all stakeholders; and the construction and installation of waste collection points at strategic locations. However, the campaign will not cover large-scale waste treatment facility construction, direct intervention in provincial government policy, or activities outside the eight designated subdistricts.
Deliverables from the campaign will include monthly progress reports with data on collected waste volumes and trees planted; documentary videos and digital content for ongoing outreach; practical 3R guides in both Indonesian and Betawi languages to ensure accessibility for local communities; participation certificates for all attendees; and formal partnerships with subdistrict governments and all target schools.
The campaign will run from May 1 to October 31, 2026. Implementation will begin with team preparation and formation in May, followed by initial outreach and participant registration in June. Three months of training sessions and tree-planting activities will take place from July to September, before moving into the evaluation and closing phase in October.
Total estimated budget is IDR 350,000,000 (approximately USD 23,000*), allocated as follows: IDR 75,000,000 for outreach materials and digital documentation; IDR 100,000,000 for tree seedlings and planting equipment; IDR 120,000,000 for training materials and waste collection point facilities; and IDR 55,000,000 for operational costs and participant refreshments.
During implementation, we will need to consider constraints such as scheduling activities around community, school, and Jakarta’s typical traffic conditions, as well as securing official permits for all tree-planting sites in line with city planning regulations. Potential risks include disruptions from bad weather or traffic – which we will mitigate with backup schedules and alternative access routes; low public engagement – to be addressed through partnerships with community leaders, local celebrities, and grassroots groups; and long-term waste management sustainability – ensured by forming trained community management teams with regular monitoring systems.
