Research and translate Japanese records for the warship Kotetsu in 1869

Job ID: 37275803

Budget: $250 – $750 AUD

I am looking to hire a Japanese-speaking freelancer to help research and translate records for the warship Kotetsu's crew in 1869.

I have already documented her actions and timeline in 1969, especially at the naval battles of Miyako Bay and Hakodate Bay, but because I only speak English, I've struggled to find her ship's log or details of her officers and crew. It was renamed the Azuma in 1871, and is sometimes referred to as Kotetsukan or adzu-nakan, and in Japanese as “甲鉄艦”(ironclad) or “Azuma-kan” (東艦)).

I believe the documents will be online or available via the National Archives of Japan, Japan Center for Asian Historical Records or the National Institute of Defence Studies. Citations are required, please, in my personal interest progresses to publishing. Any source that helps us understand her crew's experience is welcome e.g. naval documents, personal letters, or contemporary media.

If you'd love to help, I'd love to talk to you. Cheers
