English-French Classical Philosophy Translation

Job ID: 40130875

Budget: $15 – $25 USD

I need a skilled literary translator to carry a set of classical philosophical texts from English into elegant, idiomatic French. The work goes well beyond literal conversion: tone, rhythm and the subtle argumentative flow of the originals must survive intact, so familiarity with the canon—Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics and their commentators—is a real advantage.

Source material: polished English manuscripts (essays, short treatises and a few project-proposal notes that discuss how the ideas could be applied today).
Target: publication-ready French that reads as if it were first drafted in the target language, with any culturally bound references smoothly adapted or briefly glossed.

I will supply:
• clean, well-formatted Word documents
• existing footnotes and citations

You will deliver:
• fully translated French files in the same layout
• a short translator’s memo flagging any passages where meaning was uncertain or multiple renderings remain possible

A small sample (≈300 words) will be sent first; your treatment of that excerpt will help us fine-tune voice, terminology and schedule before moving on to the full batch. If you have previous work in literary or philosophical French, please mention it so I can gauge stylistic fit.

Looking forward to collaborating on these timeless texts—precision and artistry equally valued.
