Design coil for experimental generator
Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR
I think I've mostly done this part, but I need external verification, as my calculations are based on crude assumptions of field lines. I have to be sure about this part before proceeding to the build.
The coil has to nullify - or almost achieve that - Lorentz forces that act on it.
Think of this as a dead homopolar motor. A homopolar motor moves when you power the coil, strictly by electromotive force. Our coil is going to be sandwiched between two axially magnetized magnets, just like a Faraday disk, but in a homopolar generator style - it will move along with the magnets when spun, no field line crossing.
I will not get into more details, but assume that the coil is being powered from a DC source. Given that the source is DC, Lorentz forces will keep their direction. However, given that the coil is moving with the magnets, the configuration of the forces will always be the same, not rotating on a 360 degree pattern.
My model presumes two half toroids with rectangular turns. I modelled, in a crude fashion, current interaction with the field lines from both magnets, as well as field lines resulting as interaction of the magnets with induced field in the half toroids.
I have not covered any interaction with the coil core, and I do not know what a magnetized iron/steel core can have over the field lines.
What I need from you is to check on my work, see if my results are valid. I know there are CAD packages that can draw Lorentz forces, but I don't have access to anything like that. Still, I have to be sure about what I'm having before I actually put the project up for building.
