Customer Representative Engineer (Top 1% Only - Client Leadership Role - Part-Time, Remote)
Budget: $50 – $0 USD
We are a globally distributed startup hiring a Customer Representative Engineer who can operate at a high level of ownership, clarity, and professionalism.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, communication, and trust.
You will represent the company in front of clients - not as support, not as a note-taker, but as a technical authority who can lead conversations, challenge assumptions, and drive outcomes.
This is a part-time role (~10 hours per week), focused on high-impact client interactions rather than volume work.
What You’ll Actually Do:
Lead high-stakes client conversations with confidence and structure
Break down ambiguous problems into clear technical direction
Push back on clients when needed - with logic and professionalism
Translate business needs into actionable engineering decisions
Operate independently with strong judgment
Build trust quickly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
5+ years of engineering experience (you’ve built real things, not just studied them)
Proven ability to lead client conversations end-to-end
Near-native English fluency - clarity, tone, and precision matter
Ability to think in systems, not just tasks
Comfortable handling ambiguity and pressure in live conversations
Must have reliable overlap with EU and/or North American time zones
Reliable internet and professional call setup (camera + mic)
You Should NOT Apply If:
You avoid difficult conversations with clients
You rely on scripts instead of understanding
You struggle to explain technical ideas simply
You’ve never owned a client relationship directly
Strong Signals (What We Look For):
You’ve said “no” to a client - and earned their respect
You’ve turned a confused client into a confident one
You can explain complex systems in plain English, live
You’ve worked across time zones and cultures
You take responsibility when things go wrong
Compensation & Structure:
Part-time role (~10 hours per week) - focused, high-impact work
Remote, globally distributed team
Flexible schedule with required overlap for client interaction
Long-term collaboration opportunity
Compensation Range:
We typically work with senior engineers in the range of $40-$100+/hour, depending on experience, communication ability, and client-facing strength.
If you are truly exceptional, we are open to higher rates.
Low-effort or low-rate applications are unlikely to be a fit.
Application Requirements (Strict):
We review very few applications. Effort and clarity matter.
Important:
Include the phrase "client-first clarity" at the top of your proposal
Include links to your LinkedIn profile and GitHub profile
Applications missing any of the above will be automatically rejected.
Screening Questions:
Tell us about a time you disagreed with a client.
What was the situation?
What did you say?
What happened next?
Describe a situation where you had to explain something complex to a non-technical client.
Keep it concise.
What have you actually built or delivered in the last 3 years?
(Be specific - systems, scale, technologies, your role)
How do you handle a client who is confused, frustrated, or wrong?
What is your time zone, and how many hours can you overlap with:
Europe (CET)
North America (EST/PST)
Record a 1-2 minute video or audio introducing yourself and explaining why you’re a strong fit.
(We care about how you communicate as much as what you say)
Selection Process:
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a paid trial call (30-45 minutes).
You will:
Join a simulated or real client-style conversation
Be expected to lead the discussion, ask questions, and provide direction
Demonstrate how you think, communicate, and handle ambiguity in real time
This step is paid to respect your time.
We evaluate:
Clarity of communication
Ability to structure conversations
Technical reasoning
Confidence and professionalism with clients
Final Note:
We are not looking for the cheapest option.
We are looking for someone we can trust in front of our clients.
If that’s you, it will be obvious from your application.
