Glulam Beam Size Calculations
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I’m finalising the structural package for a new house and need precise glulam beam sizing before permits and material orders can move ahead. You will be working from my fully detailed architectural plans (PDF and DWG) and providing the engineering that confirms each beam’s depth, width, grade and lay-up.
Key information I can share immediately:
• Complete floor plans, roof plans and sections with dimensions and elevations
• Site location and governing code (IBC / ASCE 7)
• Preliminary load assumptions; I’m open to your guidance on roof vs. floor combinations if additional data are needed
What I need from you:
• A sizing schedule for every glulam shown on the plans, tagged to sheet references so my builder can locate each member quickly
• Calculation package (hand or software-based—RISA, SAP2000, Revit Structure, etc.) that shows span checks, deflection limits and load paths
• Any connection or bearing notes that could affect column or wall design
Acceptance criteria:
1. All beams meet or exceed code-required strength and serviceability limits.
2. Calculations are organised, clearly referenced to plan call-outs and ready for building-official review.
3. Final deliverables are supplied in PDF, with the schedule also in an editable spreadsheet.
Turnaround within a week would keep my project on track, but let me know realistically what you need. I’m happy to answer span, load or material questions fast so you can concentrate on the numbers.
