Flood Wall Load Calculations

Job ID: 39799678

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

Our cinder-block flood barrier is already standing and I have the original design drawings ready to share. What’s missing is a clear set of engineering calculations that shows exactly how much hydrostatic pressure and water height this wall can safely withstand.

Key facts you’ll need
• Material: block construction (standard 8 × 8 × 16 in concrete units).
• Foundation conditions: built on clay soil.

I’d like you to model the wall, apply the appropriate flood-water loads, and check sliding, overturning, bearing and any other limit states you consider relevant. Please summarise every assumption (wall height, thickness, drainage detail, reinforcement if any) and show the step-by-step maths or software outputs that back up your conclusions.

Deliverables
1. A concise calculation report (PDF or Excel + PDF) that states the maximum water depth the wall will resist with an adequate factor of safety.
2. Recommendations if the wall falls short—e.g., extra buttresses, drainage holes or reinforcement—kept brief but practical.

As long as the final package is clear enough for my local inspector to follow, the format is up to you; hand calculations, STAAD, SAP2000, RetainPro, or similar tools are all acceptable.

Turnaround within a week would be ideal, but let me know if you need a little longer.
