Modular Automotive CAN Tool Development
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I need a full-stack hardware/firmware solution that turns raw CAN traffic into immediately usable information on multiple vehicle platforms. The heart of the job is a custom, automotive-grade PCB paired with firmware that can switch between brand-specific profiles (no firmware rebuilds or reflashes once deployed) while it performs real-time signal analysis, unit conversion—think km/h instantly shown as mph—and delivers the results over existing screen or dial
Hardware
The board must survive the harsh 12 V system, deliver rock-solid CAN transceiver performance. I will rely on you for the full schematic, layout, BOM, Gerbers, and production-ready documentation.
Firmware
Running on an embedded MCU, the code has to:
• Parse high-speed and low-speed CAN frames in real time
• Load and apply brand profiles stored in internal flash
• Execute unit conversions
Brand coverage for the first release: Toyota, Nissan, Honda (including early models), Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Mazda, Audi.
Deliverables
1. Schematic, PCB layout files, Gerbers, and a verified BOM
2. Compiled firmware, full source, and build instructions
3. A sample set of vehicle profiles demonstrating each supported brand
4. Brief user documentation showing how to swap profiles and perform a sample conversion
5. Full multi-vehicle support, extended testing, production optimisation, enclosure/cable design, and final production validation can be handled in the next stages.
